last weekend - quadruple outing!

hhmm thot i already posted this .. well apparently not... so here goes

Colombiana : Zoe Saldana was volatile in this action packed drama about a little girl who goes Rambo after watching her parents killed by Colombian drug lords. After her performance in Losers, she manages to pull off this role of an revenge driven assassin who has to battle her pain in order to get payback.

Tinker,Tailor,Soldier,Spy : Gary Oldman leads a strong cast in a throwback to the 70s style spy drama based on the role made famous by Alec Guinness in the tv adaptation. slightly slow moving, but still good drama and credible performances by Firth, Hardy n co to back up Oldman. Was ok to watch, but a little draggy at times.

Friends with Benefits : This one took me by surprise.. i was expecting the usual rom-com but it was actually hilariously good. Kunis and Timberlake pull of their roles well, and there's a lot of humour interjected to the awkard-at-first relation they have, but with the usual predictability out of the way, the two of them manage to pull this one off quite well. And with Patricia Clarkson having the best lines (HA HA!) it made for good entertainment!

30 minutes or less : Eisenberg returns to his comedy roots with Aziz Ansari in a comedy about a loser pizza delivery guy who gets a bomb strapped to his chest by two other losers who want a quick buck and make him rob a bank for him.. makes sense?
Well that's the plot and basically the whole movie. There are some laughs in it.. but i'd keep this one for DVD or downloading if u fancy some gags.

Cowboys and Aliens

Jon Favreau serves up another slick action flick loaded with effects and stars. Daniel Craig portrays a cowboy who wakes up in the middle of nowhere, with memory loss. Soon recovers his mean streak and ends up getting in trouble with the law... and enter Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Keith Carradine amongst others embroiled in this survival in the old wild west when aliens show up with some cool spider looking crafts and kidnap some of their townsfolk.

Cue some predictable sequences later, but coolly entertaining ride and we see Wilde n Craig lead the westerners and red indians into battle to save the day!

All in all a good viewing, but seems like Favreau is getting short on ideas. However, while there have been films on aliens in ancient egyptian times, and modern day as well... why not put a western and aliens on the same screen! good effort, enjoyable result!!

Hattrick weekend!

Dominic Cooper stars in this awesome telling of Latif Yahia's tale of his horror of being the body double Uday Hussain (yes.. that same one from Iraq). It's awesomely told, good performance by the main character in both roles, and also some good action in telling a tough tale. The movie goes to lengths to portray uday as a 'devil' and Latif as the troubled 'double'. Personally felt the actor who carried out the small part of Saddam Hussein was terrifyingly g o o d.

Super 8 is a cool sci-fi take on a 70s time during which some kids in a small town end up being part of a military secret, which end up creating chaos to that town and involves a life form (alien of course... it IS a JJ Abrams movie) that just wants to go home (ET anyone?).
The young cast does well to hold themselves and create the characters whom resemble any kid growing up in the US (in the 70s). The story itself while being predictable, does enough to keep you wanting more while entertaining at the same time. And boy, the train crash scene is a damn good one!

Another modern take on the classic tale, this time as a prequel..and i'd say they did well... with the human performances of caliber with Franco, Pinto, Lithgow, and Felton turning in solid shifts.. it's the apes characters (mainly Andy Serkis takes the credits here) that end up being the main stars of this film.
With an origin based tale on how the apes got superintelligent, and moving onto how they rebelled against cruelty to finally break out and break free... of humans!
Great CGI makes this one a very very good watch

Unlimited Card!!

YES... been enjoying a past month of flicks thanks to my new Cineworld Unlimited Card!.. with a nominal monthly fee, i'm able to enjoy as many flicks i want each month... the fee covers about 2 movies, so each time i watch a third one is already a bonus for me :D July i managed to cover 4!! yeahoo... onto August now...

the wolfpack returns!!

and boy does this pack entertain hehehehe

sorry but i couldn't resist. watched it, and while at most times i couldn't wait to punch Zach G's character Alan for all the nonsense he gets the pack into.... i totally enjoyed how Ed Helms' Stu gets into as much trouble as only he possibly could while Bradley Cooper's Phil attempts to save the day while trying to be cool .... again!! LOL.... but with the added comic relief by a monkey (worth the cheap laughs i tell u) and Ken Jeong add into the mayhem that ensues.

loads of reviews i got from my pals all said that the first one was better, i mean most prequels are... but this sequel holds it's own against it's predecessor, in more ways then the pack can handle :P

Verdict : Sweeeeeett!! hahahah

Battle : Los Angeles

hot-diggity damn! wow that was intense.... finally i managed to get excited enough about a movie to write it up haha. Anyway, after being away too long from my movie/tv outlet of emotions..i thought i'd better get back to sharing all that i've been uploading to my mental servers. (still not yet a regular cinema-goer but i do what i can to watch good quality shows streaming online.. Vive le piracy!)

Battle: LA makes no effort to hide that this is an all out dogfight. and right from the get go it's a tactical display of planning and execution of a battle, fought against alien invaders (of course) set in the streets of LA (of course), with the humans almost pushed back to brink of defeat before making a superb comeback to survive against all odds (heck yeah!) of course with the standard emotional moments, human drama and humorous exchange in critical moments to smoothly progress to finale of euphoria and relief all rolled into one.

Standard story right, same as ID4 and any other alien invasion movie, except this was more Black Hawk Down meets District 9 (though that was exceptional) and i loved this more!! i know it received a lot of flak (pun intended) from a lot of box office critics et all, but who cares. Like i always try to tell myself and all those who accidentally tuned into this blog... watch it yourself and judge it for yourself.

Eckhart perfectly portrays a Staff Seargent battling inner daemons to lead his raggity band of troops to save the civillians and beat the baddie. Some folks said the characters were not properly developed... but come on it's a battle! who cares.

Verdict : HECK YEAH!! i'd so watch it a few more times.
